Why this site exists

Most slug tools use one quick regex, so "Café" becomes "caf" and "Привет мир" disappears. We wanted one set of rules that handles accents, symbols and other scripts properly, gives the same result in the browser and in your code, and works on a single title or a whole site migration.

How it works

Every tool is plain JavaScript running on the page. There is no account, and nothing you paste or upload is sent to a server. Your slug settings and language choice are saved in your browser's localStorage so they are there next time.

How we check the output

The JavaScript, Python, PHP, Go and PostgreSQL snippets are tested against the same set of inputs and must return the same slug as the tool. The test suite is run during development.

What it does not do

It does not romanize Japanese kana or Korean (Chinese can optionally become pinyin). Turn off Smart transliteration to keep those characters in the slug. It does not shorten links, host redirects or track clicks.

Open-source credits

Chinese → pinyin uses pinyin-pro by zh-lx (MIT License). It is loaded from this site only when your text contains Chinese. Read the license

How we verify each claim

Every feature promise on this site is backed by an automated check that runs before each release.
